Frequently Asked Questions
Your Digital YolkFan™ device may have gotten stuck. To fix the device, follow the suggested solutions below.
- Make sure your Digital YolkFan™ is not plugged in while scanning. To fix this issue, unplug your device and then reset it by gently pressing a paperclip in the small hole on the top of the device.
- It is a best practice to also allow a scan to complete before changing screens or apps.
- “Mashing” buttons on the app can sometimes cause issues.
- Have you tried charging the device? Use the included USB charging cable with any standard USB charger. A full charge shouldn’t take more than three hours.
- Don’t use your Digital YolkFan™ while it is charging.
- Reset your Digital YolkFan™ using the reset pin hole.
- Hard close the iOS app. (GUIDE)
- Distance yourself from other Digital YolkFan™. Sometimes you might inadvertently be connecting to a different Digital YolkFan™.
- Place your Digital YolkFan™ directly next to your phone. This will increase the signal strength and insure that the correct device is at the top of the Bluetooth list.
Insert a paper clip into the hole on the top of the Digital YolkFan™ unit. Push gently to reset the device – the light should be off now.
- The colors represented on your screen are back illuminated and use the RGB color system. Although the colors may not be true to life, the DSM YolkFan™ number will be correct.
- Please make sure you are scanning your yolk correctly and it is fully sealed under the yolk adapter. Do not differ from the procedure laid out in the guide above.
- Please make sure you are using the yolk adapter. The Digital YolkFan™ is calibrated for use with the adapter. Scans will be incorrect if the adapter is not used.
All Digital YolkFans™ are calibrated and tested in-house to ensure high accuracy and reproducibility, and unfortunately there is no way to re-calibrate the device outside of our facilities. However, all components in the Digital YolkFan™ were specifically chosen for their stability and our testing shows that reading consistency will be drift-free over time.
Experiencing a slight difference between Digital YolkFan™ readings and paper DSM YolkFan™ “eye-test” readings is expected. Due to the subjective nature of the paper DSM YolkFan™, a difference of +/-1 is well within the expected range.
If you are consistently experiencing a large difference between measuring methods, it may be due to an error in scanning procedure. Please ensure you are following the scanning procedure above.
