Digital YolkFan™ Pro Setup Guide

Before you start: Download the Digital YolkFan™ Pro App on your iOS or Android device.

Step 1:


Unbox your Digital YolkFan™ Pro. Inside the box, you will find the charging cable, a microfiber carrying pouch, a quick start guide, and egg yolk adapters.

Note:

Your Digital YolkFan™ Pro arrives in a “sleeping” state. You must wake up the device before use. To do so, plug it in using the provided USB cable to either your computer or any cellphone charger. Unplug from charger before using device.

Step 2:


Attach a new yolk adapter using firm downward pressure.

Pro tip:

Even though it’s possible to clean your yolk adapter, it’s recommended to replace them after extended use for optimal results.

Step 3:


Start the Digital YolkFan™ Pro App and connect to your device.

Note:

If more than one Digital YolkFan™ Pro is within range of your phone, the app will list them with the nearest (greatest signal) unit at the top.

Warning:

You must allow location services and bluetooth on your mobile device for the app to work correctly.

Step 4:


Crack an egg on any white plate. Place the Digital YolkFan™ Pro on the yolk.

Pro tip:

Be sure to lower the Digital YolkFan™ on to the yolk at an angle. This reduces air bubbles and prevents the yolk from potentially rupturing.

Warning:

Ensure the yolk adapter is clean, properly seated, and scratch free before scanning.

Warning:

Ensure all air bubbles are removed from under the yolk adapter by lowering the device at an angle. Bubbles will result in incorrect readings.

Step 5:


Press “SCAN”, within a few seconds you will receive the DSM YolkFan™ number.

Pro tip:

You can write a note, save a scan, and even email the results right in the Digital YolkFan™ Pro app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Digital YolkFan™ device may have gotten stuck. To fix the device, follow the suggested solutions below.

  • Make sure your Digital YolkFan™ is not plugged in while scanning. To fix this issue, unplug your device and then reset it by gently pressing a paperclip in the small hole on the top of the device.
  • It is a best practice to also allow a scan to complete before changing screens or apps.
  • “Mashing” buttons on the app can sometimes cause issues.

  • Have you tried charging the device? Use the included USB charging cable with any standard USB charger. A full charge shouldn’t take more than three hours.
  • Don’t use your Digital YolkFan™ while it is charging.
  • Reset your Digital YolkFan™ using the reset pin hole.
  • Hard close the iOS app. (GUIDE)
  • Distance yourself from other Digital YolkFan™. Sometimes you might inadvertently be connecting to a different Digital YolkFan™.
  • Place your Digital YolkFan™ directly next to your phone. This will increase the signal strength and insure that the correct device is at the top of the Bluetooth list.

Insert a paper clip into the hole on the top of the Digital YolkFan™ unit. Push gently to reset the device – the light should be off now.

  • The colors represented on your screen are back illuminated and use the RGB color system. Although the colors may not be true to life, the DSM YolkFan™ number will be correct.
  • Please make sure you are scanning your yolk correctly and it is fully sealed under the yolk adapter. Do not differ from the procedure laid out in the guide above.
  • Please make sure you are using the yolk adapter. The Digital YolkFan™ is calibrated for use with the adapter. Scans will be incorrect if the adapter is not used.

  • Please make sure you are using the correct application when scanning yolks. Download the Digital YolkFan™ App for your smartphone or tablet below.
  • It is also possible that your yolk is off the scale of the Digital YolkFan™. In this case  “1-” or “16+” will appear on the screen.

All Digital YolkFans™ are calibrated and tested in-house to ensure high accuracy and reproducibility, and unfortunately there is no way to re-calibrate the device outside of our facilities. However, all components in the Digital YolkFan™ were specifically chosen for their stability and our testing shows that reading consistency will be drift-free over time.

Experiencing a slight difference between Digital YolkFan™ readings and paper DSM YolkFan™ “eye-test” readings is expected. Due to the subjective nature of the paper DSM YolkFan™, a difference of +/-1 is well within the expected range.

If you are consistently experiencing a large difference between measuring methods, it may be due to an error in scanning procedure. Please ensure you are following the scanning procedure above.
